Wisdom
Tooth Surgery
As fuss free as possible.
The way (we think) it should be
Wisdom tooth removal can be a very daunting task. The prospect of injections, pain, noise, blood and stitches. Doesn’t sound appealing at all.
Yet sometimes there is necessity for removal because the alternative is worse.
In these situations, we strive to provide a clear and straightforward wisdom tooth removal process.
Note: we do not and cannot promise “100% no pain”, “zero complications”, “surely no problem”. That would probably be irresponsible to begin with. But we will tell you like it is and look to minimize these as much as possible. And if it’s simply not possible, we’ll tell you.
From consultation & X-rays, to the actual wisdom tooth surgery, to payments and post-surgery care, we strive to keep each step professional and efficient, keeping the main objective in mind: to deliver a quality wisdom tooth surgery experience to you
A detailed clinical and radiographic examination is performed for case assessment. Our doctors will explain the procedure and discuss the risks vs benefits of the surgery
Together, our team of general dental surgeons and oral and maxillofacial surgery specialists treat a wide range of cases of varying complexities
Wisdom tooth surgery is a Medisave-claimable procedure. We look to keep the payment and Medisave claim process as hassle-free as possible so you can focus on what’s most important: your recovery from the surgery
Patients will be given clear instructions on how to manage their surgery site to ensure minimal discomfort during the recovery process
A wisdom tooth surgery generally takes around 30 to 60 minutes depending on complexity.
The actual procedure should not be noticeably painful as it is typically performed under local anaesthesia.
Medication will also be prescribed after the procedure to minimise post surgery discomfort during the recovery process.
This depends on your medical history and individual condition. Enquire with our doctors to find out more.
If your wisdom teeth are impacted and preventing adequate oral hygiene, it is best to have them removed. You should get your wisdom teeth checked if you experience:
– Pain
– Recurring food trap
– Swelling
Wisdom teeth that are impacted or decayed may lead to an accumulation of bacteria. This can then cause gum infections and / or decay to the adjacent teeth. Other complications like dental cysts which can be associated with an impacted tooth should be screened for too.
Recovery should take around 1 week on average, this may vary with the complexity of the surgery.
Stitches are usually not required for simple wisdom tooth extractions. They are required for most wisdom tooth surgeries to help close the wound after the surgery and to minimise bleeding.
An antiseptic mouthrinse will be prescribed after the surgery to keep the wound clean and instructions on use will be given. You should also continue to brush your teeth at the other areas of the mouth to ensure good oral hygiene.
It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, travelling, hot and hard foods for the next few days after the surgery.
Post surgery care instructions will be provided by our team after the procedure to prepare you well to help ensure minimal discomfort during the recovery process.
