Yet sometimes there is necessity for removal because the alternative is worse.

How long does wisdom tooth surgery take?

A wisdom tooth surgery generally takes around 30 to 60 minutes depending on complexity.

Does wisdom tooth surgery hurt?

The actual procedure should not be noticeably painful as it is typically performed under local anaesthesia.
Medication will also be prescribed after the procedure to minimise post surgery discomfort during the recovery process.

Can I be sedated for wisdom tooth surgery?

This depends on your medical history and individual condition. Enquire with our doctors to find out more.

Is wisdom tooth removal always necessary?

If your wisdom teeth are impacted and preventing adequate oral hygiene, it is best to have them removed. You should get your wisdom teeth checked if you experience:
– Pain
– Recurring food trap
– Swelling

What if I don't remove an impacted tooth?

Wisdom teeth that are impacted or decayed may lead to an accumulation of bacteria. This can then cause gum infections and / or decay to the adjacent teeth. Other complications like dental cysts which can be associated with an impacted tooth should be screened for too.

How long does it take to recover from a wisdom tooth surgery?

Recovery should take around 1 week on average, this may vary with the complexity of the surgery.

Will I have stitches after removal of my wisdom tooth?

Stitches are usually not required for simple wisdom tooth extractions. They are required for most wisdom tooth surgeries to help close the wound after the surgery and to minimise bleeding.

Can I brush or gargle after the removal of my wisdom tooth?

An antiseptic mouthrinse will be prescribed after the surgery to keep the wound clean and instructions on use will be given. You should also continue to brush your teeth at the other areas of the mouth to ensure good oral hygiene.

What should I avoid after removal of my wisdom tooth?

It is advisable to avoid strenuous exercise, travelling, hot and hard foods for the next few days after the surgery.
Post surgery care instructions will be provided by our team after the procedure to prepare you well to help ensure minimal discomfort during the recovery process.
