The cost depends on one clinical question: can the tooth be removed as a simple extraction, or is it impacted and needs surgery? A simple extraction has a fee in the range of other back-tooth extractions. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth is a day-surgery procedure with a higher fee, and it is the one MediSave covers. Only an examination and an X-ray can tell you which applies.

What determines the fee
- Erupted or impacted. A fully erupted wisdom tooth can usually be removed with forceps. An impacted tooth (under gum or bone, or growing at an angle) needs a surgical approach: an incision, sometimes bone removal, and sometimes sectioning the tooth so it comes out in pieces.
- Depth and angle. A partially erupted tooth tilted towards its neighbour is less work than one fully buried in bone and lying horizontally.
- Proximity to the nerve. Lower wisdom teeth sit close to the inferior alveolar nerve. If the panoramic X-ray shows the roots near the nerve canal, a 3D scan (CBCT) may be advised and the case may be referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
- Who performs it. General dental surgeons handle many surgical cases. Complex or high-risk cases are referred to a specialist, whose fee is higher.
- How many teeth, in how many visits. Two teeth on the same side in one session is priced differently from two separate appointments.
- Consultation and imaging. A first-visit consultation and a panoramic X-ray (OPG) are charged separately from the procedure.

MOH published dental fee benchmarks on 1 September 2025 for procedures commonly performed in private clinics. For the items relevant here:

MOH has not published a benchmark for surgical wisdom tooth removal, because complexity varies too widely. For that procedure the public reference is the CPF MediSave withdrawal limit for the surgical category assigned to your case, which the clinic states on your estimate.
MediSave
- Surgical removal is MediSave-claimable. It is a day-surgery procedure on the CPF Table of Surgical Procedures. Each claim has two parts: a surgical limit for the complexity category assigned at assessment, which rises from a straightforward surgical extraction to a deeply impacted tooth needing bone removal and sectioning, plus up to $830 a day for day-surgery charges. CPF revised the limits on 1 April 2025.
- Worked example (MediSave Table 2C): surgical removal of one impacted wisdom tooth by a general dental surgeon at Hougang Green, with a procedure fee of $1,420 before GST ($1,547.80 with 9% GST). Table 2C allows up to $1,950 for the visit: up to $1,120 for the surgical procedure plus up to $830 for day-surgery charges. The full $1,547.80 can be claimed from MediSave if your balance allows, so nothing is paid in cash for the surgery. The $1,420 is a guide for a straightforward case: your fee may be higher or lower depending on the complexity of your case, which can also change the MediSave category and limit, so a more complex case may leave a balance to pay in cash.
- A simple extraction is not MediSave-claimable. If your tooth is fully erupted, the extraction is paid in cash, with CHAS if you are eligible.
- The clinic submits the claim. At a MediSave-accredited clinic you sign the authorisation form and the claim is filed electronically on the day. You pay any balance above the withdrawal limit or above your account balance.
- A family member’s MediSave (spouse, parent, child, sibling) can be used with their authorisation if your own balance is insufficient.
- Check your balance via the CPF app or Singpass before the appointment so the estimate is accurate.

CHAS, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation
CHAS does not subsidise surgical wisdom tooth removal. It does subsidise the parts of the visit on the CHAS dental list, for eligible Singapore Citizen cardholders, up to these caps per claim (from 1 October 2025):

So a CHAS cardholder having a simple wisdom tooth extraction can have the consultation, X-ray and extraction subsidised. A cardholder having surgical removal can have the consultation and X-ray subsidised by CHAS and the surgery paid from MediSave, in the same visit. Is wisdom tooth removal MediSave-claimable?
Surgical removal of an impacted tooth is. A simple extraction of an erupted tooth is not. For a straightforward surgical removal (MediSave Table 2C), the claim can be up to $1,950 for the visit: up to $1,120 for the surgery plus up to $830 for day-surgery charges.
Does CHAS cover wisdom tooth extraction?
CHAS subsidises the consultation, X-ray and a simple back-tooth extraction for eligible cardholders. It does not subsidise surgical removal.
Why do quotes differ so much between clinics?
Erupted versus impacted, depth of impaction, bone removal or sectioning, nerve proximity, and general dentist versus specialist. Two patients with “a wisdom tooth” can have very different procedures.
How much does wisdom tooth removal cost at Teeth Q?

Does it cost more to remove two teeth at once?
Usually less than two separate procedures, because consultation, imaging and anaesthetic are shared, and MediSave limits allow for multiple teeth in one session. Your dentist will advise whether doing both is sensible.
