CHAS and MediSave for Dental Treatment in Singapore: A Patient Guide

CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation cardholders may receive subsidies for selected dental services at participating CHAS clinics. MediSave is generally reserved for selected medically necessary surgical dental procedures; eligible patients aged 60 or older may also use Flexi-MediSave for selected non-surgical treatments. Eligibility and the amount claimable depend on the procedure, prevailing rules and clinical assessment.

CHAS and MediSave are different

CHAS is a government subsidy scheme. For an eligible procedure at a participating clinic, the applicable subsidy is deducted from the clinic’s charge. The patient pays the balance.

MediSave uses money from the patient’s—or an eligible approved payer’s—MediSave Account. CPF states that it may be used for selected complex dental procedures involving surgery and performed for medical reasons, subject to the applicable withdrawal limits. Patients aged 60 or older may also have Flexi-MediSave available for selected non-surgical procedures such as permanent crowns and root canal treatment.

Neither scheme means that every dental treatment is free. A dentist must assess the patient’s condition, establish whether the planned procedure meets the relevant requirements and explain the estimated fees before treatment.

Who can receive CHAS dental subsidies?

Selected dental subsidies are available to eligible CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation cardholders at participating CHAS dental clinics. CHAS Green does not receive the selected dental subsidies described in the current official dental schedule.

Bring your valid physical or digital card and identification. The clinic should confirm eligibility and the remaining claim limits before relying on an estimated subsidy.

Current basic and preventive CHAS dental subsidies

The following maximum amounts reflect the official CHAS information effective from 1 October 2025 and checked on 19 August 2026. They must be rechecked on the official CHAS website before publication and whenever this page is updated.

Dental service Pioneer Generation Merdeka Generation CHAS Blue CHAS Orange
Consultation Up to $30.50 Up to $25.50 Up to $20.50 Up to $13.50
Polishing Up to $30.50 Up to $25.50 Up to $20.50 Up to $13.50
Scaling Up to $40.00 Up to $35.00 Up to $30.00 Up to $20.00
Topical fluoride Up to $30.50 Up to $25.50 Up to $20.50 Up to $13.50
X-ray Up to $21.00 Up to $16.00 Up to $11.00 Up to $7.50
Anterior extraction Up to $38.50 Up to $33.50 Up to $28.50 Up to $19.00
Posterior extraction Up to $78.50 Up to $73.50 Up to $68.50 Up to $45.50
Complex filling Up to $60.00 Up to $55.00 Up to $50.00 Up to $33.50
Simple filling Up to $40.00 Up to $35.00 Up to $30.00 Up to $20.00
Re-cementation Up to $45.00 Up to $40.00 Up to $35.00 Up to $23.50

These figures are maximum subsidies per claim, not the clinic’s treatment fees. Claim-frequency limits also apply. For example, the current CHAS page lists limits for consultations, scaling, polishing, fluoride, X-rays, extractions, fillings and re-cementation.

Restorative dental procedures under CHAS

The official schedule also covers selected denture repair or relining, permanent crowns, complete and partial removable dentures, and root canal treatment. The maximum subsidy varies according to the card tier and, for some procedures, the treatment category or complexity.

For treatments involving several visits—such as dentures, crowns and root canal treatment—CHAS states that the subsidy may be claimed only after the procedure is completed. The procedure must be completed before the CHAS card expires.

Because the restorative schedule contains procedure-specific definitions and claim limits, patients should ask the clinic for an itemised estimate rather than calculating the final bill from a headline maximum.

When might MediSave apply to dental treatment?

CPF’s current guidance says MediSave may be used for selected complex dental procedures that:

  • involve surgery;
  • are performed for medical reasons; and
  • meet the applicable MediSave withdrawal rules.

Examples given in CPF educational guidance include wisdom tooth surgery and dental implants. This does not mean every extraction, implant-related procedure or treatment plan is automatically claimable. The clinic must determine the procedure code and claim eligibility for the planned treatment.

For patients aged 60 or older, available Flexi-MediSave may also be usable for selected non-surgical dental procedures, including permanent crowns and root canal treatment, subject to prevailing limits.

Can CHAS and MediSave both be used?

Whether more than one financing arrangement can be applied depends on the procedure and prevailing scheme rules. Do not assume that two benefits can be combined for the same treatment. Ask the clinic to show:

  1. the treatment fee before subsidy or claim;
  2. the CHAS subsidy, if applicable;
  3. the MediSave amount, if applicable; and
  4. the estimated amount payable by the patient.

CHAS clinics must provide itemised bills showing the procedures performed, the fees before subsidy, the CHAS subsidy claimed and the balance payable.

What should I ask before treatment?

  • What is the diagnosis and proposed treatment?
  • Is the clinic participating in CHAS?
  • Does my card tier cover the proposed procedure?
  • Do I have sufficient claim limits remaining?
  • Is any part of the treatment MediSave-claimable?
  • Does the treatment require several visits before a CHAS claim can be submitted?
  • What is the estimated total fee, subsidy or claim, and out-of-pocket balance?
  • Are X-rays, medication, laboratory charges or follow-up visits included?

Using CHAS or MediSave at Teeth Q

Teeth Q’s six clinic pages state that the clinics are CHAS and MediSave accredited. Eligibility still depends on the patient’s scheme status, the treatment performed and the prevailing rules.

Frequently asked questions

Does CHAS cover every dental treatment?

No. CHAS covers selected procedures and applies procedure-specific claim limits. A participating dentist must assess whether the treatment meets the relevant claim requirements.

Does CHAS pay the entire dental bill?

Not usually. The subsidy is deducted from the clinic’s fee, and the patient pays the remaining balance.

Can CHAS Orange cardholders receive dental subsidies?

Yes, for selected dental services under the current schedule. The exact amount depends on the procedure.

Can MediSave pay for routine dental cleaning or fillings?

Routine non-surgical dental treatment is generally not covered by ordinary MediSave. CPF states that selected patients aged 60 or older may use available Flexi-MediSave for certain non-surgical dental procedures. Confirm the specific treatment with the clinic.

Can I use a family member’s MediSave?

Rules concerning an approved payer and relationship must be checked for the specific claim. The clinic should verify this before treatment; this article should not be treated as claim approval.
