Frequently asked questions about braces

How much do braces cost in Singapore?

Specialist braces fees are $3,488 for students and NSFs and $3,888 for adults. At Hougang RiverCourt, these fees are subject to prevailing GST. At Dakota Breeze, these fees are nett and no GST is added. An additional $300–$500 may be required for more complex cases after assessment.

Are there arrangements for students or NSFs?

Yes. The specialist braces fee for students and full-time National Servicemen is $3,488. Patients must be aged 23 or below and present valid identification. The fee is subject to prevailing GST at Hougang RiverCourt and is nett at Dakota Breeze. It includes specialist consultation, X-rays, a digital scan, braces records and clear retainers.

Why are braces fees shown separately for different clinics?

The care pathways have different systems, inclusions, exclusions and GST treatment. The published RiverCourt and Dakota specialist fees include clear retainers. At Hougang Green, Matilda Portico and Fernvale Woods, specialist consultation, required X-rays and study models are included, while retainers and other dental procedures are charged separately when required.

Which type of braces is suitable for me?

Suitability depends on your bite, tooth position, oral health, treatment objectives and preferences. Your clinician will explain the reasonable options after examining you.

Do all patients need extractions?

No. Extractions are not required for every case. They may be considered when clinically indicated after assessing space, tooth position, bite and facial profile.

How long does braces treatment take?

Treatment time varies with the starting tooth and jaw positions, the goals of care, the appliance and individual response. Your clinician can estimate a timeline after records and planning.

Do braces hurt?

Temporary tenderness or rubbing can occur after fitting and adjustments. Your dental team can advise on oral care and what to do if discomfort is persistent or unusual.

How often are review visits?

The interval depends on your appliance and treatment plan. Your clinical team will schedule reviews at suitable intervals and advise you if an additional visit is needed.

Do I still need routine dental care?

Yes. Keeping teeth and gums healthy remains important during orthodontic treatment. Continue routine examinations and cleaning as advised by your dentist.

Will I need retainers after braces?

Retainers are usually recommended after active treatment to help maintain tooth position. The type and wear schedule are prescribed for your case.

Can adults have braces?

Many adults can undergo orthodontic treatment. Suitability depends more on oral and periodontal health and clinical needs than on age alone.
