Implant-supported overdentures

A removable denture with added implant retention.

An implant-supported overdenture attaches to dental implants for additional stability and remains removable for cleaning. Your dentist will assess your teeth, gums, bone, bite, medical history and goals before discussing whether this—or another tooth-replacement pathway—may be suitable.

Is this the concern you have?

Start with the problem—not a treatment name.

An assessment is required before any implant treatment is recommended.

My denture moves

You wear a complete denture and want to understand whether implant retention could improve stability.

I have extensive tooth loss

You need to replace many or all teeth in an arch and want to compare removable and fixed options.

I want easier cleaning

You prefer a restoration that can be removed for cleaning and are able to maintain the implants, attachments and denture.

Compare pathways

Three different ways to replace a full arch.

None is automatically best for everyone. The appropriate pathway depends on anatomy, oral and medical health, function, maintenance needs, preferences and cost.

Your assessment and treatment journey

Planned around the person and the final restoration.

  1. 01

    Examination and records

The dentist reviews your concerns, current denture, remaining teeth, gums, bite and medical history. Appropriate X-rays or 3D imaging may be recommended.

  2. 02

    Compare suitable pathways

You discuss whether teeth can be retained, the removable and fixed alternatives, expected maintenance, main risks and benefits, stages and fees.

  3. 03

    Implant and denture planning

If you proceed, implant positions and the overdenture are planned together. Implant number, attachments, healing and any interim denture are case-dependent.

  4. 04

    Fit, care and reviews

After healing is assessed, the overdenture is fitted or connected. You receive cleaning instructions and a review plan for the denture, attachments, gums and implants.

Benefits and limitations

Understand the trade-offs before deciding.

Potential advantages

Additional denture retention, removability for cleaning and a pathway that may use fewer implants than some fixed full-arch options.

Ongoing maintenance

The denture and implant areas need daily cleaning. Attachment components, fit and the denture itself can require adjustment, relining, repair or replacement over time.

Clinical limitations

Implant surgery has risks and healing is individual. Gum health, bone, implant position, restorative space, medical factors and ability to maintain the restoration all matter.

Package fee, MediSave and CHAS

$5,000 for two implants and one implant-supported overdenture.

This indicative package excludes GST. Prevailing GST applies at Hougang Green, Matilda Portico, Fernvale Woods and Hougang RiverCourt. Dakota Breeze and Tampines GreenGem do not add GST to this package.
  • MediSave: eligible patients may claim up to $3,070—up to $2,240 for two implant insertions and up to $830 for eligible day-surgery charges.
  • CHAS: the eligible removable complete-denture component may receive up to $272.50 (Orange), $408.50 (Blue), $413.50 (Merdeka Generation) or $418.50 (Pioneer Generation). CHAS does not subsidise the implant placement.
  • Included: bone grafting performed together with implant placement where clinically appropriate, plus subsequent reviews relating to the implant-supported overdenture.
  • Not included: consultation, imaging, extractions, temporary dentures, separate bone grafting for a large defect, and replacement components required later because of wear and tear.
  • Complex cases: an additional $300–$500 may be required. Your dentist will assess your case and explain this before treatment begins.
Actual MediSave and CHAS amounts depend on clinical eligibility, available balances, eligible charges and prevailing rules. They apply to different treatment components. The team will provide an estimated claim and remaining payable amount before treatment.

Common questions

Clear answers before your assessment.

What is an implant-supported overdenture?+

It is a removable denture that attaches to dental implants for additional retention. You remove it for cleaning.

Is it the same as “snap-on dentures”?+

“Snap-on dentures” is a patient-facing phrase often used for removable dentures that connect to implant attachments. The exact design and attachment system must be confirmed for your individual plan.

How is it different from a fixed implant bridge?+

An overdenture is removable by the patient. A fixed full-arch implant bridge is not removed by the patient and has different planning, cleaning, maintenance and fee considerations.

How many implants will I need?+

The $5,000 package is designed around two implants and one implant-supported overdenture where clinically suitable. Your dentist will confirm whether this approach is appropriate after examination and imaging.

Can my existing denture be converted?+

Sometimes an existing denture may be considered for modification or temporary use, but its design, fit, strength and relationship to the implants must first be assessed.

How much MediSave may be used?+

Eligible patients may claim up to $3,070: up to $2,240 for two implant insertions and up to $830 for eligible day-surgery charges. The actual amount depends on the treatment performed, eligible charges, available MediSave balance and prevailing rules.

Does CHAS apply?+

CHAS does not subsidise implant placement. Eligible cardholders may receive a subsidy for the removable complete-denture component: up to $272.50 for CHAS Orange, $408.50 for CHAS Blue, $413.50 for Merdeka Generation or $418.50 for Pioneer Generation, subject to clinical assessment, available claim balance and prevailing CHAS rules.

What maintenance may be needed?+

Daily cleaning and professional reviews are required. Reviews relating to the implant-supported overdenture are included in the package. Attachment inserts, denture bases or other components that later require adjustment, repair or replacement because of wear and tear are not included.
